Two-Day CE Curriculum

To Satisfy Recently Mandated Sedation of High-Risk Patients (RULE §110.16)(C)(2) by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners

This 2-day (16 hours of CE) didactic and hands on continuing educational program consists of both class room didactics along with a hands on clinical component utilizing high fidelity manikins to simulate 10 cases.

Course Objectives:

Pre-anesthetic patient assessment, physical evaluation, pharmacology of sedative agents, appropriate sedation/anesthetic techniques, intra-operative monitoring, peri-operative complications, records keeping along with recovery and discharge of medically compromised/high risk patients including but not limited to geriatrics, obese, special needs, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, endocrine disorders, genetic disorders, obstructive sleep apnea and other systemic conditions.

Enrollees will manage and complete 10 cases utilizing high-fidelity patient simulation with the use of computers that simulate real-life scenarios. All of the cases will be performed and documented under the on-site instruction and direct supervision of a licensed dentist authorized to administer sedation/anesthesia to high-risk patients.
